In what may come as a shock to many in the world of lingerie, women are now seeking to turn away from the slimming styles of previous decades and embrace a new look that can only be described as ‘more booty’. Experts are not surprised, given that the general tendency of fashion is to swing from one end of the spectrum to the next, but it has certainly caught many in the fashion magazines off guard and the press is alive with reports of a brand new phenomenon that is now sweeping the United States: padded panties. Oddly, celebrities like Tara Rachel Benson have been spotted wearing these undies along with tight fitting Herve Leger dresses and stiletto heels. The combination is designed to be part of a whole out fit and is seen as a way of celebrating the Booty Pop movement that stars like Jennifer Lopez are known for having created. The panties are made with an insert of egg shaped foam pads designed to plump out the posterior and create an appealing look that is now a large part of the music video and pop culture style in the US.

Confidence is what many wearers of the padded panties have reported they experience in the new garments, saying that they feel a lot more like Beyonce than their generally more slender selves. Girdles appear to be on the way out as a way to emphasize the desired waist to hip ratio and the pads are seen as a new way to compete in a world of fashion that often aims itself at only one type of woman at a time.

Most of those who know the name Courtney Love will remember her from the grunge era days when she and her punk rock husband, the late Kurt Cobain, were the darlings of the media all over the world. The couple made a big splash for their very anti establishment code of conduct and their uniquely dismal fashion sense, as well, calling up a more Beat Generation type of style with a 90’s spin that gave birth not only to grunge fashion, but the longer lived alternative fashion style. In those days, Love was a huge figure in the Seattle music scene, but as the couple’s star rose she became known as a figure of notoriety in the Hollywood area and began to shake things up on a much grander scale than ever before. Today, Love looks back on those days with a mix of wonder and horror, according to a recent interview she gave to the press regarding a blog that is focused on what she is wearing each day. Love has said that a Google Image search she performed a short time ago gave her results she was not particularly pleased to see as it appeared that the majority of the attention on her was focused on some truly heinous outfits that she admittedly had been experimenting with.

With her new blog, Love seeks to get her own public image back under her control by showing those who care to take a look what her style is really all about. She will go so far as to make daily photos available even now while she is on tour with her latest band.

Designers have done well for their kind in recent years by making a lot from joint ventures, teaming up with other product makers to expand their brand. Now things are moving in a new direction with a number of designers beginning to work with big name hotels to create unique places that offer both luxury places to vacation and also big name designer touches that help to create a unique style for the environment that tourists are in. The new glam oriented gift shopes will be a big part of the hotels and are expected to offer a variety of high end exclusive fashion items which consumers would not be able to find in any other retail setting, thus raising the appeal of the particular location they are featured in. This means that the days of tacky gift shop sourvenirs may be brought to a merciful end as consumers will now be able to select much higher quality apparel to bring back from their stays at luxury hotels – especially items that do not simply bear the hotel’s name on them.

From Rebecca Minkoff bags to pajamas from Band of Outsiders, it is definitely a whole new world for those who visit and stay in the high end hotels that are part of the scene in New York City, Beverly Hills and other luxury vacation destinations. Luxury hotel chains have been hard at work to procure the exclusive fashions and in some cases have gone so far as having their own designed especially for them. They are looking to create a uniquely local selection of goods just for their customers.

While it has always been a measurable truth that females do the vast bulk of shopping in general, but especially when it comes to fashion – even men’s clothing – things were hopefully going to be better for online retailers who would attempt to lure in men looking for clothes. As it turns out, much of the hold up for men in shopping for clothes is that they did not want to be seen doing fashion shopping and would therefore avoid any and all attempts to get them into stores that focused on clothing lines. Still, big retailers have been trying to bring men in and get them to look at more clothing choices from the privacy of their own homes or wherever they might like to be thanks to the mobile web browsing advances available today. Male shoppers are notorious for dodging all kinds of marketing so retailers online have been trying everything from throwing in gadgets like an ax or other weaponry to sporting goods that might appeal to the masculine mind set.

As it turns out, men are not even going after sites that are designed to appeal only to men with no wading through the women’s wear in the process. There are a few shops which have managed to entice a few male shoppers by going after brands men tend to like, but these are few and far between. Web experts say it may be a while before male shoppers can be lured away from online games and other sites online into clothing shops, but eventually if the marketing mix gets developed well enough certain stores may be able to get that coveted male shopper.

Fashion is such a personal part of our lives that it can be difficult to find new looks that really suit the vast majority of us. What might look great in a magazine is not always all that comfortable for the average person to fit into, much less be seen wearing. This is why there are so many different types of brands on the market today, but out of these that are offered in the more low end discount retail shops and chain stores, many of these brands are not only lacking when it comes to the part of fashion savvy, but they are also cheaply made designs that are just not going to last. Those who want comfort, style and a nice level of sensible clothes they can wear any time would do well to investigate what Franklin and Marshall has to offer. This is a fairly recent brand that as a 1st class concept behind its core image: student simple fashion that is easy to wear and looks great no matter when a person wants to slip it on. That is a great idea that many have come to love.

The nice thing about this brand is that it is not yet overly popular so those who would like something a bit off the popular path can feel confident that they are getting something both comfy and really stylish. This is a terrific combo that would be hard to match with any other brand and thanks to the way that Franklin and Marshall handles their own clothing manufacture process it is a very good bargain to actually purchase these clothes, as well. The best prices on quality fashion that is both savvy and classic with a comfortable fit? Genius is the only word that could possibly describe this trendy brand.

As the biggest sporting event of the year with contenders from all over the globe, the World Cup is happening right now in South Africa. As the games get revved up into the next ground, an innovative project is being brought to the fashion savvy public by Very.co.uk which asks viewers which styles from two totally different nations they believe are the best. Fans of football (known as soccer in the United States) have been able to enjoy the team action and national pride for the games, but now it’s time for a whole new competition that pits two serious World Cup contender nations against one another for fashion design domination.

Following the sequence of the games, right now it is Brazil going up against South Korea. What about the fashions? Well, Brazil has a great deal to offer with a splash of lush tropical designs that practically scream sassy and passionate. The bright, bold colors are naturally appealing and bring a lot of charm to the contest. How does South Korea plan to strike back? With a serious but chic look that infuses the country’s strong military heritage with a utilitarian level of comfort and versatility that might not be loud, but still stays both sexy and inviting. Both styles have a great deal to offer to the right girl, but which one will it be?

What could put South Korea over the edge is the fact that they have not only employed neutral earth tones and fabulous blacks that can work with just about any personality type, but the accessories are where the eyes are drawn. For Brazil, it’s hard to miss the color and the pure playfulness of the clothing, with sunglasses and strappy heels fitting right in with flower motifs and flowing skirts.

Enjoying the Fashion Face-Off is the easy part, it’s picking a winner that gets tough.

There has not yet been a place where today’s fashion stylist could learn their craft in the United Kingdom, but a new London school hopes to change all of this with a totally new curriculum designed to do exactly that. In September of 2010, the new school will offer a range of training classes for those who want to be fashion stylist. The name of the school is the aptly titled London College of Style and it was founded by model and stylist Kate Smith, as well as another big name in the UK stylist community, Wendy Elsmore. Together, the duo have a combination of 15 years of experience in the fashion industry and are now working with a whole slew of fashion magazines, designer fashion labels and, of course, celebrity super stars. The pair of women plan to use their talents and experience to help groom the world’s next UK stylists to be able to go through a short term professional training program and them be able to move on to the industry that is needing them much more than ever before. Both women decided that a 2 or 3 year uni program was far too long and that week long seminar type learning experience by so called celebrity stylists were not intensive enough, thus they designed their approach to help fill the void that both approaches to training leave between each other.

According to what she has told the media, Kate Smith says that a 12 week course in styling will be one of the primary parts of what the school offers and the other big course will be in the making of garments for various body shapes. The business and marketing of styling services, as well as editorial styling will all be important topics covered in the classes which will bring in hair dressers, photographers and even make up artists.

Everything this season is playing on the concept of low-key. Of course, in fashion, even low-key must find a way to be extreme. This season’s hot new shoes accomplish this by contrasting in every possible way with last year’s fall/winter shoe selection.

Oversized details are out. Whimsical bling has been replaced with a focus on luxurious materials. Chaotic colors are gone, too, with coal black, black-green, very dark navies, and medium browns in, and shoes being, for the most part, monochromatic. Most designers are focusing on taupes, beige, and icy grays for contrast instead of loud color. A few bright colors made their way onto the runway–those with enough classic appeal to be considered timeless, and presented as such. Crimson and burgundy are the front runners in that category.

Even though shoes that are (or at least, look) practical are getting the most attention, heels are still higher, and getting higher yet. You won’t see them draped in chains or charms this year, though. The higher and more exotic the heel, the more designers are relying on using materials that appeal either to classic styles or are very minimalistic in design.

Of course, there’s one way that this winter’s shoes manage to match up with their predecessors. It’s always fashionable to keep warm, so high boots and over the knee boots will be back in high numbers.

All true fashionistas know how trend-driven nail polish is. Every season offers her the chance to show how current her fashion IQ is… or isn’t… based on the color and style of her manicure.

For Fall 2009, nail polish takes another new turn. It’s not the color of your nails, or their length, this time around. Sure, some colors will be hotter than others, and the more fashion forward will have their nails at a manageable length. But the hot new trend deals with something else entirely.

So what is it that sets the truly style savvy apart this season? Matte nail polish.

That’s right. No more gloss, no more shine, no more super shine or extreme sparkle. The absolute must have nail polishes for Fall are flat finishes. It’s a pretty smart move on the industry, too, if they’re behind it. No one already has matte polish, because it’s such a new product. You’re going to have to buy a whole new collection.

Or maybe not. A few cosmetic companies saw this coming and know that while trend followers love to shop, the idea of compiling a whole new nail wardrobe might be a bit much. That’s why they’ve come up with a variety of matte top-coats that will update the nail polishes you already have.
