There has not yet been a place where today’s fashion stylist could learn their craft in the United Kingdom, but a new London school hopes to change all of this with a totally new curriculum designed to do exactly that. In September of 2010, the new school will offer a range of training classes for those who want to be fashion stylist. The name of the school is the aptly titled London College of Style and it was founded by model and stylist Kate Smith, as well as another big name in the UK stylist community, Wendy Elsmore. Together, the duo have a combination of 15 years of experience in the fashion industry and are now working with a whole slew of fashion magazines, designer fashion labels and, of course, celebrity super stars. The pair of women plan to use their talents and experience to help groom the world’s next UK stylists to be able to go through a short term professional training program and them be able to move on to the industry that is needing them much more than ever before. Both women decided that a 2 or 3 year uni program was far too long and that week long seminar type learning experience by so called celebrity stylists were not intensive enough, thus they designed their approach to help fill the void that both approaches to training leave between each other.
According to what she has told the media, Kate Smith says that a 12 week course in styling will be one of the primary parts of what the school offers and the other big course will be in the making of garments for various body shapes. The business and marketing of styling services, as well as editorial styling will all be important topics covered in the classes which will bring in hair dressers, photographers and even make up artists.
